As part of a pioneering national initiative, Operose Health has teamed up with ImproveWell to give primary care teams a stronger voice in shaping the future of care.

Spanning 82 sites across the UK, including GP practices, Primary Care Hubs, Emergency Department Streaming and Urgent Care Services, the three-year programme aims to gather ideas, share best practice and improve outcomes for over 700,000 patients.

With 93% of its GP workforce directly employed, Operose Health is well-placed to harness frontline insight and drive improvements across the UK.

Supporting NHS priorities

The Government’s 10-Year Plan for Health calls for a shift from hospitals to community care, and from sickness to prevention. Making this happen means investing in primary care - not just financially, but by empowering the workforce to lead change.

Driving real impact in primary care improvement

NHS Southend and NHS Castle Point & Rochford CCGs were the first to pilot the ImproveWell platform nationally over a 12-week period.

The goal was to strengthen feedback loops between GP practices and the CCGs - enhancing support and enabling teams to better address workload pressures.

The platform helped teams:

  • Share best practices

  • Engage staff in continuous improvement

  • Streamline communication

Practical examples of frontline-led improvements:

  • Standardised blood tests for chronic conditions via a SystmOne Template

  • A new practice manager forum launched via a mobile app, improving communication and consistency across 8 localities

What South East Essex CCGs achieved:

  • 100% of ideas submitted were implemented
  • 62% of ideas were easy to implement
  • 46% of ideas were high impact

Additional reported benefits:

  • 38% observed fewer errors
