 — Empowering the workforce to drive change at the Burns Service, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust —

30 August 2023, London (UK): ImproveWell LTD (“ImproveWell” or “the Company”), the award-winning real-time feedback solution for improvement, and the Burns Service at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust (the “Burns Service”) are finalists in the 2023 Innovate Awards.

More than 190 entries across 11 categories were received, resulting in 56 finalists. ImproveWell and the Burns Service is one of five finalists recognised in the Best Workforce Innovation category and the winner will be announced on 21 September 2023.

Nicole Lee, Burns Matron at the Burns Service, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am passionate about real-time learning and improvement which led me to introduce the Bedside Learning Coordinator role to the Burns Service, powered by ImproveWell. The app makes it easy for us to capture day-to-day feedback at the point of care, from conversations with patients and colleagues. People are really engaging, and we’re getting more in-depth ideas coming through which are enabling us to make significant changes.”

In April 2022, the Burns Service adopted the ImproveWell solution to actively involve staff in the process of creating and supporting change. In less than a year, the percentage of staff feeling comfortable sharing ideas increased from 57% to 91%, while those who felt their ideas were heard rose from 57% to 72%. In addition to boosting staff morale, with 74 improvement ideas submitted in the first eight months, potential financial savings of up to £143,930 and time savings of up to £20,128 have been identified. Approximately 55% of these ideas have already been implemented, including an idea related to stock checking and standard operating procedures that could save c. £50,489 per year.

The tool is being rolled out in other departments at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust including Adult Theatres and Intensive Care.

Lee Watson, Hospital Director of Nursing, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We want our staff to feel part of a culture where new ideas and open feedback are encouraged and supported; Nicole’s work in the Burns Service is an excellent example of this in practice. As a major care provider in North West London, we are committed to digital innovation, research and continuous improvement to provide the highest level of care to our communities. It is fantastic to see the innovation from our colleagues and the ImproveWell innovative solution recognised in these awards and I look forward to seeing the continued positive impact it has on our services.”

Lara Mott, CEO and Co-founder of ImproveWell, said: “Being a finalist in the Best Workforce Innovation category of the Innovate Awards is wonderful recognition for Nicole and the team’s ImproveWell programme in the Burns Service. These awards elevate examples of best practice across the NHS, inspiring others to initiate positive change at a local, national or even international level. Congratulations to all of the finalists and we look forward to celebrating with you in September.”

About the Innovate Awards

The Innovate Awards is a collaboration between the AHSN Network, which operates as the innovation arm of the NHS in England and acts as the collective voice of the 15 academic health science networks (AHSNs); and NHS Confederation, the membership body, representing healthcare in the UK.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic highlighted exemplary efforts by staff in health and social care teams but also shone a light on the need for innovation and transformation in the way we work. The new Innovate Awards celebrate excellence in innovation in health and care, showcasing those teams, organisations and health and care systems leading the way in positive change.

About ImproveWell

Giving everyone a voice, ImproveWell makes it simple for organisations to capture continuous, real-time insight to improve staff experience and the quality of patient care. Never has this been more important.

The award-winning solution is grounded in three principles: those at the frontline are best-placed to improve the systems around them; giving staff a voice and the agency to find solutions to the challenges they face is fundamental to building a collaborative, motivated and resilient workforce; and a happier workforce leads to better patient outcomes.

Developed in partnership with healthcare organisations, ImproveWell’s evidence-based feedback systems offer a platform for people to drive change, together. 24/7 everyone can: suggest ideas for improvement; share how their workday is going; and complete tailored pulse surveys. Insights from wider stakeholder groups can also be gathered via a customisable online portal.  An intelligent data dashboard helps group and organisational leads to capture real-time data, track workforce sentiment, prioritise quality improvement efforts, measure change and publish reports to complete the feedback loop.

But ImproveWell is not just a technology solution: a dedicated Customer Success team provides consultative onboarding and ongoing advice. Customers can also join a community of healthcare improvers offering opportunities for collaboration and sharing best practice.

Simply put, the ImproveWell solution helps create the right environment for workforce engagement, continuous improvement and everyday innovation in health and care.
