ImproveWell, a real-time digital platform for staff to improve health and care, has been named runner up in the category of Best Health Tech Solution of the year at Health Tech Newspaper’s Health Tech Awards.

The Health Tech Awards are judged by NHS and public sector judges, and celebrate the difference that digital innovations are making in health and care.

ImproveWell has been recognised for its overall contribution to employee retention and engagement.

Recent successes include improving retention at the Rosebrook Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), part of Southern Health and Social Care Trust in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. They had a significant problem with staff retention. Emails, posters, and incentives were used to encourage staff to use ImproveWell to give feedback.

Senior staff nurse, Leigh Ferris, said: Whilst before we were haemorrhaging staff, in the last 12 months we haven’t lost a single staff member. And recruitment has been successful. There’s a change in how others perceive our team and it’s a place where people want to come to work. That’s a clear sign that our aim of improving culture on the ward is working.”

Another was supporting the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) to launch a national Enjoying Work collaborative using ImproveWell. This provided opportunities for 38 healthcare teams across 16 UK healthcare organisations to understand and test ideas on the factors contributing to joy in work over the course of a year. The solution has also since been rolled-out in the US, Canada and Kenya. Results from the RCPsych programme showed a 51 per cent increase in people who enjoyed being at work frequently, as well as a 41 per cent increase in the percentage of people experiencing no symptoms of burnout.

Lara Mott, CEO and Co-founder of ImproveWell, said: “It’s a privilege to work with NHS teams who are dedicated to improving health and care. By engaging their teams through ImproveWell, they are increasing retention and improving how people feel about coming to work. This leads to a better experience for everyone in the NHS and these small improvements add up to make a big difference even when the system is under as much pressure as it is.

“So often, frontline staff have the best solutions to problems and we’re proud to give them an innovative platform where they feel empowered to share their ideas and make a real impact.”
