2 August 2022

2 August 2022, London (UK): ImproveWell LTD (“ImproveWell” or “the Company”) and East London NHS Foundation Trust have won the Health Tech Digital Awards 2022 for the category: Best COVID-19 Solution for Mental Health.

East London NHS Foundation Trust (“ELFT”) provides mental health, community health, primary care and specialist services to 1.8 million people. In 2017, ELFT started using a Quality Improvement approach to help achieve the strategic objective of improving staff experience, using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (“IHI”) Framework for Improving Joy in Work[1] and the ImproveWell digital solution. ELFT’s ‘Enjoying Work’ programme brings together teams to develop their own ideas and apply Quality Improvement to enhance joy in work.

Dr Amar Shah, Chief Quality Officer, East London NHS Foundation Trust and National Improvement Lead at the Royal College of Psychiatrists said: “Using the ImproveWell solution, the ‘Enjoying Work’ programme supports teams to be able to understand how people feel on a day-to-day basis, to capture ideas and to enable teams to really think about enhancing the things that bring them joy in their work, and tackle what gets in the way of them having the best possible experience. Over 70 teams have taken part in this programme, and we have many stories about the richness of coming together as a team, talking about enjoying work and looking at the things that really contribute to us having a great day at work – and the things that get in the way.”

In 2021, results from the initiative were published in a peer-reviewed article in the British Journal of Healthcare Management. In the first two cohorts of ELFT’s Enjoying Work programme, 14 of the 21 teams demonstrated sustained improvement in the percentage of staff who felt they had a good day at work. Building on the successes and learnings from ELFT’s Enjoying Work programme, in summer 2021 the Royal College of Psychiatrists launched a national Enjoying Work collaborative to achieve improved workforce wellbeing. Furthermore, in September 2021 the IHI launched its latest Joy in Work collaborative and made the ImproveWell solution available to 15 participating organisations across the NHS, US, Canada and Kenya.

Lara Mott, CEO and Co-founder of ImproveWell, said: “In creating the right environment for positive staff experience, frontline staff can deliver the best possible care to the populations they serve. As we continue to navigate this period of recovery and addressing a backlog, with a workforce that has relentlessly given maximum efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, never has there been a more important time to give the frontline a voice. Winning this award is such wonderful recognition for the ImproveWell team and our inspiring colleagues at East London NHS Foundation Trust who have paved the way for local, national and international wellbeing at work.”

About ImproveWell

Giving everyone a voice, ImproveWell makes it simple for organisations to capture continuous, real-time insight to improve staff experience and service delivery.

The solution is grounded in three principles: those at the frontline are best-placed to improve the systems around them; giving staff a voice and empowering them to find solutions to the challenges they face is fundamental to engagement and positive experience; and a happier workforce leads to better outcomes.

Developed in partnership with healthcare organisations, ImproveWell’s feedback systems provide a platform for people to drive change, together. 24/7 everyone can: suggest ideas for improvement; share how their workday is going; and complete tailored pulse surveys. Insights from wider stakeholder groups can also be tapped via a customisable online portal. An intelligent data dashboard helps group and organisational leads to capture real-time data, track workforce sentiment, prioritise quality improvement efforts, measure change and publish reports to complete the feedback loop.

But ImproveWell is not just a technology solution: a dedicated Customer Success team provides consultative onboarding and ongoing advice. Furthermore, customers can join a community of improvers offering opportunities for collaboration and sharing best practice. Simply put, the ImproveWell solution helps create the right environment for wellbeing at work and continuous improvement.
